In Memoriam of Ding Defu
Ding Defu was born in 1940 in Wenling, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. From 1961 to 1966, he studied in Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology (now Beijing University of Chemical Technology), the former Ministry of Chemical Industry. While in school, he made progress in his thinking, served as the president of the Student Union and joined the Communist Party of China with honor. After graduation, he actively responded to the call of national defense third-line construction and came to Datong County, Qinghai Province, located in the remote northwest, to participate in the establishment of Liming Chemical Research Institute of the Ministry of Chemical Industry (now Luoyang Liming Chemical Research Institute). He held the positions of Director of Scientific Research Office, Vice President, President, and Party Secretary. In May 1990, he was transferred to the former Marine Coatings Research Institute (now Qingdao Marine Chemical Research Institute), serving successively as Director, President, and Party Secretary until the end of 1998.
When serving as Director of the Marine Coatings Research Institute and Director of the Marine Chemical Research Institute, he actively cultivated young scientific and technological talents and promoted technological innovation. In addition to his busy leadership work, he often went into the research laboratories to understand the progress of scientific research and told the touching story of dedicating his youth to the construction of national defense in the northwest desert. With the fighting spirit of Academician of the Chinese Academy, Junxian Li, he encouraged young people to "become talent in three years, achieve success in five years and become famous in eight years", and strive for national scientific research awards.
With his research and development experience of RIM technology in Liming Chemical Research Institute, he actively encouraged the research of spraying polyurea technology. He also gave enthusiastic support in many aspects, such as project approval, overseas investigation, equipment introduction, and logistics support, which played an important role in the successful research and development of spraying polyurea technology.
President Ding was very loved and will be missed by all deeply. He is survived by two sons, his wife, and three grandchildren.
On June 23, 1998, President Ding Defu (4th from the right) cordially received Mr. Dudley Primeaux (4th from the left), an American polyurea spraying expert who was invited to give a lecture, accompanied by Huang Weibo (1st from the left), Zhang Shuhua (2nd from the left, Vice President), Tu Ruowang (3rd from the left, representative of Huntsman Company), Liu Yonggan (1st from the right, GUSMER Company technician), Zhu Wanzhang (2nd from right, deputy chief engineer), Cheng Guoliang (3rd from right, representative of GUSMER Company), details see 2008-06-22 news on this website.
